AMD last week announced sampling of the first generation server systems-on-a-chip, based on 64-bit ARM core. Future Opteron A1100 series SoCs will be manufactured on 28nm process, and offer 2 - 4 times greater performance than company's x86-based X-Series APUs. The "Seattle" processors will support 10 Gb Ethernet and SATA 3 interfaces, and work with both DDR3 and DDR4 memory. The chips are expected to ship in the fourth quarter of 2014.
