Microsoft uvolnil pro veřejnost testovací betaverzi Service Packu 2 pro Windows Vista a Windows Server 2008. Zatímco dosud byla instalace Service Packů snad vždy kumulativní, což znamená, že stačí nainstalovat jen ten poslední, který obsahuje i ty předchozí, tentokrát je to trošku jinak. Betaverze SP2 vyžaduje mít nainstalovaný SP1 (další dodatek k této anomálii ve zbytku článku). Další důležitá věc: Funkčnost této betaverze je tradičně omezena a na ploše budete mít pravděpodobně nápis „Evaluation Copy“. Pokud tuto betaverzi Service Packu neodinstalujete, přestane po 1. květnu roku 2010 systém fungovat. Stejně tak ji budete muset odinstalovat v případě, že budete chtít instalovat finální verzi, až vyjde.
